Kaler plays so beautifully and smoothly, I have absolutely no complaints. The recording quality is excellent. He plays a modern style violin (not a baroque violin), but I believe that he has incorporated a lightness associated with a "historically informed" performance style. This set of discs can be recommended without any reservation. I have listened to it twice since I received it last week. It would be a great purchase at twice the price. i do not remember how many versions that I have of these pieces. I cannot say that any of the other versions are better. Sometimes I want to hear a more schmaltzy version, so I go to Ruggiero Ricci. It is rich and voluptuous. I am not sure who I prefer in the period performance style. Van Dael is certainly very easy to listen to. I have really enjoyed the new recording by Mullova. With these pieces, there is a real embarrassment of riches. I have de Luca, Milstein at least twice and so many others. Kaler stacks up against any of them!
