Hilary Hahn, although young and a relative newcomer to the classical music scene, deserves every bit of admiration and respect that she is already getting, and more.I am not going to compare or even mention (after this) any of the great violinists who came before her and recorded these same pieces with legendary results. It's like comparing a 2012 Ferrari to a 1969 Chevelle. Different styles, different worlds, different everything. No point comparing this to what Milstein or Grumiaux or Heifetz did in their day. They made their mark decades ago and there's no sense comparing.Hahn's interpretation of Bach's solo violin work is nothing short of stunning. Her technique is flawless, but she puts every bit of her passion and love for the music into her playing, and it shines through beautifully. The result is an absolutely stunning performance of every movement. I find myself hanging on each note, reading sheet music along with the CD and finding all the subtleties and nuances that these pieces are notorious for represented with clarity, passion, and depth. And the sound quality is crisp, clean and brilliant; with a good pair of headphones it sounds like she's standing right in front of me, giving a private concert. The ONLY thing that I don't absolutely love about this CD, is that it does not include all of Bach's Partitas and Sonatas. There are only 2 Partitas and 1 Sonata. I haven't been able to find a complete set by Hahn, and that's very unfortunate because it would very likely become my go-to when I'm in the mood for some Bach.
